How LG’s Hom-Bot Turbo+ combines the functions of robotic vacuum cleaning and a CCTV camera
With the technological direction of travel, the changes to LG’s new version of the Hom-Bot robotic vacuum cleaner should come as no surprise. If you are familiar with robotic vacuum cleaners like the Roomba, they use cameras and motion sensors for vacuum cleaning. You might have they use similar technology to home security systems.
On that note, you may be thinking, “why don’t we combine the two technologies?”. Well, this month, your wish is my command. Enter LG’s latest version of the LG Hom-Bot Turbo+. As well as going about its normal routine as a vacuum cleaner, it combines crime busting with vacuum cleaning. The same cameras and sensors that are used for vacuum cleaning are used to take photographs of intruders.
If you are familiar with today’s state-of-the-art security systems (and robotic vacuum cleaning systems), there is the obligatory smartphone app. Instead of having two proprietary apps (one for a home based CCTV system and another for the robotic vacuum cleaner), one app will do two functions.
The standard issue Hom-Bot vacuum cleaners are priced from £285.00. Though we have no details of a UK release, Hom-Bot Turbo+ is set to released this month in the US. The fully featured crime busting and vacuum cleaning model will sell for $999 (£775.26).
As soon as we see them in Argos or Currys, we wouldn’t mind a bash at LG’s latest creation ourselves. With the UK price tag likely to be around £800, this could be quite a big ask for any Christmas or wedding list. In spite of that, we want one.
